About the venue

The Rifle is a prominent local venue offering live music events and private hire facilities for a range of different occasions. We’re able to cater for all types of events from weddings, anniversaries and parties, to charity events and funeral wakes.

We’re flexible when it comes to accommodating various aspects of your celebration such as themes, and we can also recommend great local suppliers for services such as catering, entertainment and party equipment / decorations - please see the Booking T&Cs for further details.

The venue also attracts band promoters looking to put on a variety of live music acts, from local and touring bands, as well as popular tribute acts from all over the UK.

Located on Goldsmith Avenue in Portsmouth, near to Fratton Railway station and Portsmouth Football Club, the bar is open for all home football matches, offering televised sport and pool facilities.

Many years ago there was actually a Rifle range on the site, which is where the name came from! The club used to be a members-only social club until it became what it is today - a venue open to the public with no membership required.

The Rifle is open by appointment and can be hired on any day of the week, subject to availability and booking conditions. The club is usually open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm-6.30pm, so if you wish to pop in for a look around, we can usually arrange access during this time, subject to prior bookings.
